studio 1

Mr. Smalls recording studio on Pittsburgh’s historic North Side is just blocks from Heinz Stadium in the remains of what was known as Audiomation. Our studio is constructed in a 20,000 square foot facility which includes an enormous tracking room, three large isolation rooms, a beautiful control room, a lounge, game room and kitchen. Residential amenities can be arranged for out of town musicians.

Having seen the likes of iconic artists such as Anti-Flag, Black Eyed Peas, 50 Cent/G-Unit, Keller Williams & Ryan Adams, Mr. Smalls brings its history to a new room who’s own history includes the likes of The Darkness, Peter Gabriel, John Hicks & Dwayne Dolphin, Rusted Root’s legendary first album “Cruel Sun” (owner, Liz Berlin’s band) and Out Of The Blue (owner, Mike Speranzo’s band). With the talents of head engineer and owner, Larry Luther as well as the other skilled engineers of Mr. Smalls, there will be a wealth of diversity in recording styles, techniques and tools.

music camp
Each year Liz Berlin organizes and directs the REAL.LIFE MUSIC CAMP, a one week intensive program designed to help bands and musicians receive experience, information and product to further them in their processes of becoming national level artists. Participants in the camp, hosted by Mr. Smalls Recording Studios & Theatre, benefit from the knowledge of national musicians and industry professionals as well as many of Pittsburgh’s most motivated and successful musicians including members of Rusted Root, selected staff and artists of A-F Records, Mr. Small’s & Creative.Life.Support Records. Within the five days of camp, each band goes through guided pre-production rehearsals and records two songs for a demo CD, develops an individualized bio and participates in a professional band photo shoot to give them a comprehensive and updated press kit. Throughout the week, we provide many workshops ranging from band dynamics to booking your own shows and several Specialty Musicianship Seminars. Every camper has a complete experience of playing music, recording, developing promotional materials and attending seminars with industry professionals on a variety of real-life, need-to-know band issues with national musicians, industry professionals. This is a really unique opportunity to work one-on-one with Liz on bettering yourself as a performer and recording artist.
